Self portrait HW

In class today, our professor gave us an assignment to take out our phones, look in the reflection, and spend thirty minutes drawing our faces. When he said that I was immediately taken back from my thoughts and he had my full attention. Why was my college professor in my English class asking us to draw a picture of our faces? I was so surprised I couldn’t believe it, but I complied with his directions and soon found myself drawing the basic features of my face. Starting with the outline, then the hair, then the eyes then the nose then the mouth and then I finished up with the ears. Towards the end when we finished up I was asked to show the drawing to my professor he immediately responded, “wow that’s not bad it kind of looks like a cartoon”. I took that as a compliment and then I didn’t think much of it until writing this paper. But now looking back and not blaming my inartistic skills I could have done much better. I just drew the basic things of the face; I did not go into any details at all. I could have made my figure more proportionate. I also could have added the little details of my face like the facial hair, acne, and the occasional scar. I feel as though this ties directly into writing because when we are asked to do a simple task we do not pay enough attention and then we let the little things that are the easiest to do go right over our head and we are left with a basic finished product which could have been an advanced simple product if we just did one simple thing; pay closer attention. For example, if I had paid more attention to details and not made my nose a triangle or my eyes perfect circles I would have been left with a way better finished product and that would have only taken me a couple of extra minutes. Imagine what the finished product would have looked like if I did that for every little detail. Same with the writing, if I could pay more attention and not just breeze over everything my writing skills would improve immensely with just a simple step.
